Ein einmaliges dystopisches Sci-Fi Epos

Bewertung am 06.03.2023

Bewertungsnummer: 1894321

Bewertet: Schulbuch (Taschenbuch)

Perfekt für eine Schulklasse (ab 6/7), simpel geschrieben im Präsens und Ich-Erzähler, jedoch erzählt es eine extrem komplexe und einzigartige Geschichte über Armut und die Medienlandschaft im Kapitalismus.

The novel ‘’The Hunger Games’’ written by Suzanne Collins and published in 2008, is about the life of a teenage girl named Katniss Everdeen in a post-apocalyptic world, that hosts a brutal event called ‘’The Hunger Games’’. The Hunger Games plays in the future North-America, which was destroyed through wars and natural disasters. By these things, Panem was formed. It is split into the rich Capitol and 13 poorer districts. However, even under the different districts, the living conditions are unequal, while the inhabitants of district 1 and 2 are rich, district 11 and 12 are facing death every day. To display their power and prevent further rebellions, they invented a murderous game called ‘’The Hunger Games’’. The narrator lives in district 12 under poor circumstances. She lives with her little sister and mother in the poor part of district 12. In order to survive, Katniss must go hunt in the woods. Since her mother is unable to take care of the family, Katniss has to take over the task of the family head. In our eyes, the author created a cruel and unequal world, that fits the Story very well. The author tries to familiarize the reader closer to Katniss and her life, her feelings and thoughts. The book has much tension, but also some calmer phases. All in all, there is a good ratio between them. We like the relationship between the two main characters, Katniss and Peeta. It is presented well, but its development is more interesting. It is also very exciting because there are many emotional but also exciting scenes. Not only that, but it is also exciting, because of the complicated relationship between Katniss, her best friend and her savior her fellow tribute), which both fell in love with her. However, I personally think the first part of the book was boring, as there wasn’t happening much. Considering everything, we think the novel has well written characters and an overall very interesting story.
