Ein Nachteil ist allerdings, dass das Buch keine "typisch niederländischen" Vokabeln des landestypischen Lebensstils enthält, z.B. The phrasebook Farsi is a good, but not perfect, phrasebook. The strength of this book are the many infoboxes on Persian customs and the country and the informal vocabulary. However, the vocabulary and the phrases are not as comprehensive as in other titles of the series, nor are as many topics covered. Another weakness is that not the entire Arabic alphabet is included, but only the word-initials, which makes it impossible for the traveler who can not already read the Arabic script to read anything by themselves. Unlike most other titles, the book does not have a colored index, but is in black-and-white only which makes the individual sections difficult to find. The book features a short grammar as well as a 3500-word two-way dictionary and all phrases are rendered in Arabic script as well as in transliteration.
All in all, a useful phrasebook, but it is not quite as good and comprehensive as most other titles in the lonely planet series.

The phrasebook Middle East features the most important phrases in Modern Standard Arabic, Egyptian Arabic, Gulf Arabic, Levantine Arabic, Tunisian Arabic, Farsi, Hebrew and Turkish. The book is in full-color with an index in several colors which makes the separate sections easy to find. The strength of the book is that it features the most important phrases in 8 languages/dialects of the region, making it especially suitable for globetrotters who visit several countries on a trip. However, it only features the most basic and most important phrases on about 30 pages per language of which 7 pages constitute a mini-dictionary and it also lacks the short grammar that most other titles of the series comprise. Thus, it is anything but comprehensive and you might not find the phrases you need. The book includes the full Arabic alphabet, as well as the Hebrew script, and all phrases are given both in transcription as well as in the original script. The book contains a short cultural section at the end, featuring a history timeline of the area, a page each on Arabic, Hebrew, Persian and Turkish cuisine, as well as descriptions of the most important festivals of the region.
All in all, a book that is suitable for the most basic needs of the traveler, but which won´t meet the expectations of travelers who want a deeper encounter with the culture and language of their host country. If you want more than the most basic expressions, you will have to buy the individual titles for each country.

"Aleph" tells the story of Paulo Coelho´s journey on the Transsiberian Railroad during which he meets Hilal, a young woman whom he already met in a past reincarnation and with whom he tries to return to a former life to solve some problems in his current incarnation...The story is not bad, but it is not quite convincing either and rather leaves the reader a bit disappointed since the story does not quite reach the quality of Coelho´s previous books. It disappoints as a travelogue since Coelho hardly writes about the journey and the things he sees along the way, as well as from the spiritual content since his story fails to convince. All in all, not one of Coelho´s best books.

This is a really good and very comprehensive phrasebook that fits in every pocket. In my opinion it is one of the best on the market. The book starts with a short grammar, and it also has a 3500-word two-way dictionary. One of the strengths of this phrasebook is that it features info-boxes on the culture and on Croatian customs, as well as useful expressions for special occasions. The book covers almost any topic one might look for, including sustainable travel, cultural events, special needs, etc. Another strength is that the language is often colloquial so that the expressions are close to "real life" and as one will hear them on the street. All sentences are given both in Croatian as well as in phonetic transcription to aid pronunciation.The book also has a chart with the Cyrillic Serbo-Croatian alphabet in the grammar section so that the visitor can also use the phrasebook, and read the script, in Serbia. The book is in full-color with a useful index at the edge that has a different color for each topic so that the sections can be found easily. All in all, a very good phrasebook.
