Kurzbeschreibung zu Supervision in Action. Open University...

Supervision in Action aims to help professional and trainee supervisors, consultants and coaches to 'take care of themselves' - in other words, to practice the art of learning from their own experience in their practice.

Supervision is a profession full of contradictions. It offers consultants and coaches a chance for a regular "check-up" and to be refreshed after coming into contact with a whole host of unhelpful thinking and poor organisational dynamics. Supervision hopes to assure the quality of professional practice. However, supervision is also an opportunity to develop. It's a chance to work on that which we all want to improve: our personal relationships. Supervision is overcoming the fear of the unknown with the help of a trusted colleague, in a unique free space.

Erik de Haan asks supervisors to:

  • Realise in their actions what their own emotions are telling them

  • Mirror their supervisory relationships into those with their supervisees

  • Invite doubt, tolerate tension and develop patience

  • Develop compassion, caring that others take care of themselves

With a series preface by Peter Hawkins and Robin Shohet, and minor contributions from David Birch, Michael Carroll and Elaine Robinson.
